Company culture: it can be the difference between loving and loathing your career; business success or potentially lack thereof. But in the current climate of home working and video calls, how easy is it to uphold a positive, collaborative culture – and what does “good” really look like, anyway?

Why is culture so important?

From a business perspective, it all boils down to one a simple equation: happy employees = increased productivity. Your employees are the essential component of your business success, so they need to be heard, their contributions recognised, and their achievements celebrated.

And from an employee’s point of view? Well, nobody wants to dread their working week. If the culture’s all wrong, it’s unlikely you’ll be in it for the long-haul.

Quantifying a feeling

Usually, we get a gut feeling about a place one way or another. Maybe there’s a real positive vibe that you instantly click with, or perhaps there’s something intangible which doesn’t feel quite right. It’s always a good idea to trust your instincts, but there are some quantifiable factors which can help us to evaluate the success of a business’ culture.

What makes Rotec, Rotec?

We’ve narrowed down the top 5 components of our culture; the key pieces of the puzzle which, we believe, make for a great place to work.

1.) Communication

Whether you’re the most senior director or a junior employee, we believe that everyone should feel comfortable contributing their ideas. Encouraging communication across all areas of the business is key to cultivating a shared vision. We know that nothing beats face-to-face meetings with colleagues, but regular catchups over Teams has been the next best thing as of late. We’re honest and transparent in our approach – and always end the week on a positive note by reviewing our collective successes.

2.) Collaboration

We believe in the power of working together: saying yes to teamwork and no to office politics.

3.) Agility

Adapting to new circumstances – we’ve all done our fair share of this over the past twelve months. The turbulent, ever-changing business landscape has meant having to roll with the punches, keeping up to date with what’s happening in the industry and always ensuring we follow government guidance.

4.) Focus

We have a clear, shared vision about who we are and what we’re looking to achieve. Our values underpin everything that we do. Having a shared goal brings us together as a team, giving us a clear direction for how we can grow.

5.) Compassion

If there’s one positive to take from recent events, it’s a renewed focus on compassion. We’ve seen so many acts of kindness in recent news, from the unwavering dedication of key workers, to incredible fundraising efforts (we’re thinking of you in particular, Captain Sir Tom Moore). Lending an ear to a colleague to ask: “how are you doing?” has never been more important, particularly as working from home can often make us feel isolated. A little kindness really does go a long way.

We’ve gone from strength to strength over the past few years and as our business grows, so too does our team. Interested in joining us or want to find out more? Get in touch at info@rotecsecurity.co.uk
